Fortunato NEC/LONGY Alumni Recent Achievement

Soprano, Sarah Bach
continues to lead the Arabella Ensemble presenting concerts in the region, most recently a concert of JS Bach with instrumental ensemble. Sarah, along with pianist, Emily Murphy, continues to be the resident ensemble for the Willa Cather Society with a recital at Northern Arizona University.

Baritone, David Barlow
participated in multiple Studio Classes and Longy Sunday workshops this year and won their Merit award for excellent progress and participation at Longy. Congrats, David! He is presently singing with the Pro Musica Chorus.

Baritone, Jake Cooper
has been singing as soloist and ensemble member with the Handel and Haydn Society, and many of the premiere Early Music groups in the region while his opera credits include major roles with the Boston Opera Collaborative, Helios Early Opera and Commonwealth Opera.

Baritone, Josh Fine
recently joined the studio. He sings with the Masterworks Chorale. Welcome Josh!

Mezzo, Carola Emrich-Fisher
continues to sing with the Cantata Singers, appearing with them this season as Alto Soloist in the Howell's Requiem while being featured as a soloist in their Chamber Music Series. She sang as Alto Soloist in the Messiah with the Lowell University Chorus and also appeared as Alto with the Libella Vocal Quartet -- the only New England Vocal Quartet-- at the Somerville Armory. She recently participated in the Fall Island Seminars conducted by renowned Mezzo, Stephanie Blythe.

Mezzo, Xiamin Hyun
is new to the Studio this Spring. Welcome! She has been taking Vocal courses at NEC and singing in the NEC CE Chorus as well.

Mezzo, Julia Jaffee
was a featured soloist last week in the dynamic Opera production of Rachmaninoff's Aleko, by the Commonwealth Lyric Theater earlier singing in the Rachmaninoff Festival as Laura in Tchaikovsky's Iolante, all at the Makor Center.

Soprano, Jennifer Petrallia
was able to participate in Studio Workshops and proved to be a fine Improv artist!

Mezzo, Cara Sanford
continues to sing with the Worchester Chorus and participated in various Studio workshops.

Tenor, Stefan Schaller
continues to sing with the Pro Musica Chorus. Stefan will be leaving to go back home to Munich after 3 years of study to complete his medical Residency. Auf widersehen, Stefan ~

Soprano, Sheryl Levitt-Schwartz
cantored at Temple Emmith this year and sang at commemorative celebrations as well.

Baritone, Richard Scott
won 2nd Place in his Division at the NATS Songfest this Winter, and sang with the Boston Opera Collaborative in their exciting production of Heggie's Dead Man Walking. He participated in a variety of Longy workshops and classes as well.

Soprano, Mary Margaret Segreaves
continues to sing with the Back Bay Chorale along with the Berkshire Choral Festival. She was able to sing at Studio events as well.

Tenor, Bayani Anastacio
has recently participated in local opera workshops including Crittenden and NEC Opera workshops. This summer he will be singing the role of Ferrando in a cut version of Mozart's Cosi fan Tutte with Opera Breve.

Mezzo, Margaret Lias
continues to sing as soloist and ensemble member with the Handel and Haydn Society, cantoring at the Church of the Advent and is a member of the new ensemble, the Skylark Ensemble. She was a recent soloist with the Dedham Choral Society as well as the Columbia's Musick Margaret will be singing as soloist with the .Staunton Music Festival, Staunton, VA this summer and has been selected as soloist in the Bach B minor Mass plus the Vivaldi Gloria with the H & H.

Soprano, Anna Stephenson
participated in various Longy Studio events this year while pursuing a degree in Arts Management at BU.

Mezzo, Ying Wu
continues to teach a large Studio of adult and youth singers and performs in Chinese Community concerts in the Boston area. Ying will be attending Longy next year in their Masters of Opera Degree program. Congrats, Ying!



Soprano, Anne Carolyn Bird
continues to sing at the Metropolitan Opera currently in a supporting role for the HD performance of L’Elisir D’Amore , while debuting this season as soloist with the American Symphony Orchestra, Bard Music Festival, the National Symphony, the Spoleto Festival (Pierrot Lunaire-Schönberg), and the prestigious New York Festival of Song. She returns to several regional American Opera Companies including the Wolf Trap Opera in a leading role for the Premiere of John Musto’s The Inspector, also performing as Susanna in Virginia Opera’s Le Nozze di Figaro. In the recent past, she was a soloist with the LA Philharmonic, the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra and the Atlanta Symphony.

Soprano, Amanda Forsythe
is singing major roles this year with the Royal Opera House/Covent Garden, the Vlaamse Opera in Belgium, and is currently concertizing with the Philharmonica Baroque, Vancouver Early Music Festival, and the Handel and Haydn Society. Amanda received NEC’s Alumni Award in 2012.

Soprano, Melody King
During the 2012-13 season, Melody sang the Principal roles of Leila – the Pearl Fishers, and Rosalinda in Die Fledermaus for Opera San Jose. She continues to sing with the Livermore Opera in the role of Donna Anna (Don Giovanni ) after her heralded debut as Cio-Cio San in Mme Butterfly last season Melody is singing as a concert soloist frequently throughout California.

Mezzo-soprano, Denise Milner-Howells
continues to sing major roles with opera companies in the Mid-West including The Chautauqua Opera, Opera Cleveland, and the Akron Lyric Opera. She is a recent soloist with the Buffalo Philharmonic and the Akron Symphony, amongst others. She previously was chosen to participate in the Tanglewood Festival on scholarship. Denise has been teaching at Ashland University most recently.

Mezzo-soprano, Sarah McClean
will be featured at the Hollywood Fringe Festival this summer singing a lead in the Opera Aesopera, and is currently a member of the famous LA Master Chorale.

Mezzo-soprano, Cary Ann Rosko
debuts as Fricka in Die Walküre with the Verisimo Opera; and is a leading cabaret singer on the West Coast, creating her one-woman shows and taking leading roles with the Cinnabar Theater and the Lamplighter Music Theater in the Bay area.

Soprano, Shannon Canavin
is the Founding Director of the well-known Early Music ensemble, Exultemus, now in its’ 10th season. She has concertized throughout the East Coast with ensembles including Apollo’s Fire, Newport Baroque, Arcadia Players, Amphion’s Lyre, and the Connecticut Early Music Festival.

Bass-Baritone, Davone Tines
continues in his Master in Vocal Performance at Julliard performing major roles in their opera productions, Mr. Tines has been a featured soloist with the National Philharmonic Chorale, Reston Chorale, Piedmont Symphony Orchestra. Recent engagements include covering the role of Willi in the American premiere of Sir Peter Maxwell Davies’ Kommilitonen!, and singing the role of Norton in Rossini's La Cambiale di Mattrimonio, both at Juilliard. Earlier this season, he was the bass soloist with the Clarion Music Society for Bach's Magnificat in Alice Tully Hall. This past summer Mr. Tines was in residence at the Castleton Festival in Virginia, led by founding director Maestro Lorin Maazel.
